Aries is one of the 88 modern constellations recognized by the International Astronomical Union. Its genitive form is Arietis, its standard abbreviation is Ari, it is traditionally shown as the Ram. It belongs to the Zodiac family of constellations. The constellation covers about 441 square degrees of sky, ranking 39th in size among the 88. Its brightest star is Hamal (α Ari) at apparent magnitude 2.00. It borders Perseus, Triangulum, Pisces, Cetus and Taurus.
