Pupa, also spelled Puppa and known as Kehillas Yaakov Pupa, is a Hasidic dynasty named after the Yiddish name of its town of origin, known in Hungarian as Papa. It was founded by Moshe Greenwald and had a yeshiva there before World War II; the whole community was deported to the Auschwitz concentration camp and only a few survived, and there are no longer any Jews in the town. Pupa is today headquartered in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, led by Yaakov Yechezkiya Greenwald II, with several thousand adherents and more than 7,000 students enrolled across its yeshivas, girls schools, summer camps and kollelim, including at Kiryas Pupa, a village the dynasty established in Ossining, New York.
