Temple or temple complex

This page groups sacred sites by their physical type. Wikipedia lists "sacred groves... sacred mountains, sacred trees, sacred waters, tombs" among the recognized types of sacred place. Browsing by site type lets a visitor compare a sacred mountain against a sacred spring or a venerated tomb.

What Defines This Grouping
Sites of the worship of the Goddess, above all the shakta pithas, places sanctified in myth by the fall of a part of the Goddess's body. The number of pithas is not fixed: the lists give four, eighteen, fifty-one or one hundred and eight, and the same place is claimed by more than one list, so no closed set can honestly be stated. 2
