The two scripts devised to record the liturgical and administrative languages of pre-Islamic Iran: Avestan, built to capture the Avesta's own sounds precisely, and Book Pahlavi, the everyday Middle Persian script whose short, vowel-poor spelling is notoriously ambiguous to read. Belongs here: a script created specifically for Zoroastrian-era Iranian languages before the Arabic script replaced them. Does not belong here: the Arabic script used to write Persian after the Islamic conquest, grouped under the alphabet type's own Semitic Script Family instead.
