Home›Kabbalistic Choirs›SephirahBrowse BySephirahThis page groups angelic choirs by the sefirah, or Kabbalistic emanation, each one is associated with. Wikipedia notes that "the sefirot are the ten emanations or creative attributes of God in Kabbalah," through which the divine is said to reveal itself and create the physical realm. Browsing by sephirah lets a visitor find every choir tied to the same emanation.FactsLearn MoreSephirahSourcesComments (0)Reader Challenges (0)FactsDirectoryCategoryWell-attestedAngelic Choirs 1Learn MoreTen Ranks Answering to Ten Spheres This article records tradition as it has been passed down and reported. Its sources are not yet part of the atlas's verified catalogue.Kabbalistic Choirs gathers the ten angelic ranks the medieval Jewish mystical tradition pairs one to one with the ten Sephirot of the Tree of Life, a structure that sets this scheme apart from the better known ninefold Dionysian hierarchy from the start: ten ranks against nine, and a one to one pairing with a spiritual map rather than a grouping into three triads. Nearly every member's name is drawn straight from scripture and only later organised into a ranked list. Chaioth ha-Qadesh, the holy living creatures assigned to Kether at the very top, takes its imagery from the four living creatures around the divine throne in Ezekiel's vision. Auphanim, the wheels of that same throne chariot, is simply the Hebrew word for wheels. Chashmalim borrows the gleaming, disputed word chashmal from Ezekiel too, a term modern Hebrew later reused for electricity. Malachim is the plainest case of an ordinary word narrowed for the list: it is simply the Hebrew for messengers, the general term the Bible uses for any angel, here fixed to one particular rank among ten. The lowest rank, Ishim, closes the sequence deliberately: assigned to Malkuth, the sphere of the world as it actually is, the men or manlike ones are read by several commentators as the channel through which anything from the higher ranks reaches a person at all, the point of placing them last rather than a diminishment. The group's clearest fuzzy edge is Seraphim, the one name this scheme shares outright with the Dionysian hierarchy: the Kabbalistic ranking places it fifth and assigns it to Geburah, nothing to do with the Dionysian Seraphim's position at the very top of that separate system, so the shared name marks two systems using one word for two different ranks rather than any real correspondence.SephirahFilter Results10 entriesGemstoneAllAmethyst and Sapphire (1)Diamond (1)Emerald (1)Opal, Especially Fire Opal (1)Quartz (1)Rock Crystal (1)Ruby (1)Star Ruby and Turquoise (1)Star Sapphire and Pearl (1)Topaz and Yellow Diamond (1)IncenseAllAmbergris (1)Benzoin, Rose and Red Sandalwood (1)Cedar (1)Dittany of Crete (1)Jasmine (1)Musk (1)Myrrh and Civet (1)Olibanum (Frankincense) (1)Storax (1)Tobacco (1)LanguageAllAramaic (10)Biblical Hebrew (10)Origin Period End YearAll600 (10)1300 (10)1900 (10)Origin Period Start YearAll200 (10)1270 (10)1888 (10)PlantAllAcacia, Bay, Laurel and Vine (1)Almond in Flower (1)Amaranth (1)Cypress and Opium Poppy (1)Mandrake and Damiana (1)Moly (Golden Garlic) (1)Oak (1)Olive and Shamrock (1)Rose (1)Willow, Lily and Ivy (1)PositionAll1 of 10 (1)10 of 10 (1)2 of 10 (1)3 of 10 (1)4 of 10 (1)5 of 10 (1)6 of 10 (1)7 of 10 (1)8 of 10 (1)9 of 10 (1)Queen Scale ColourAllBlack (1)Blue (1)Citrine, Olive, Russet and Black (1)Emerald (1)Gray (1)Orange (1)Scarlet Red (1)Violet (1)White Brilliance (1)Yellow (Gold) (1)Tree of Life PillarAllPillar of Balance (4)Pillar of Mercy (3)Pillar of Severity (3)Show ResultsBrowseCompareBeautySephirah1 entryCrownSephirah1 entryFoundationSephirah1 entryKingdomSephirah1 entryMercySephirah1 entrySeveritySephirah1 entrySplendorSephirah1 entryUnderstandingSephirah1 entryVictorySephirah1 entryWisdomSephirah1 entrySources1.
