Enochian is an occult constructed language, said by its originators to have been received from angels, recorded in the private journals of John Dee and his colleague Edward Kelley in late sixteenth-century England. Kelley was a scryer who worked with Dee in his magical investigations, and the language is integral to the practice of Enochian magic. Dee called it Angelical and also referred to it as Celestial Speech, the Language of Angels and Adamical, because his angels said Adam had used it in Paradise to name all things; the name Enochian comes from Dee's assertion that the biblical patriarch Enoch was the last human before Dee and Kelley to know it. The surviving corpus is small, and the linguist Donald Laycock argued against any extraordinary features. In this atlas it is the language of the Calls and related Enochian texts.
