Engai, a Maasai sky god understood in two aspects, a black benevolent form associated with rain and a red vengeful form associated with lightning and drought. The thinness here is a genuine gap in coverage rather than a claim that Maasai cosmology recognizes only one sacred figure; ancestral spirits and other beings hold real places in Maasai religious life that this atlas has not yet reached.
