Wikipedia notes that "theology is the study of religious belief from a religious perspective, with a focus on the nature of divinity and the history behind religion." Browsing by belongs-to-tradition lets a visitor find every discipline built to study the same religion.FactsLearn MoreBelongs To TraditionSourcesComments (0)Reader Challenges (0)FactsDirectoryCategoryWell-attestedDisciplines 1Learn MoreEleven Traditions of Working Will Upon the World This article records tradition as it has been passed down and reported. Its sources are not yet part of the atlas's verified catalogue.Magical Disciplines gathers eleven traditions that work to shape events, protect, heal or harm through ritual, will and craft, ranging from formal Western ceremonial systems to living folk practices carried through the African diaspora. Ceremonial magick is the most formal current, drawing Kabbalah, astrology, the elements and the invocation of angels, demons and gods into one learned system worked through consecrated tools, its texts running from medieval grimoires to the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and Aleister Crowley. Enochian Magic grew from John Dee and Edward Kelley's recorded angelic conversations of 1582 to 1589 and passed into that same ceremonial current. Necromancy, summoning the dead for prophecy, and sigil magic, encoding intention into a charged symbol, sit within the same tradition. Witchcraft spans an older folk magic and its modern revival, most influentially Wicca, with its worship of a Goddess and God and eight seasonal sabbats. Chaos magick, from 1970s England, treats belief itself as a tool to adopt and discard, and the Left-Hand Path names traditions of self deification set against traditions of self surrender. Seidr was a Norse practice of prophecy and shaping fate, associated with women and with the god Odin. Hoodoo and Obeah are the group's two registered restricted traditions, named only by what each has published: Hoodoo an African American folk magic blending West and Central African practice with Christian elements, worked through roots and herbs, and Obeah an African diasporic Caribbean healing and protective practice with no single canon, historically criminalised by British colonial law. Shamanism, entering an altered state to reach a spirit world, closes the group as its widest member.Belongs To TraditionFilter Results22 entriesAdherents Today MaximumAll13,000 (1)14,800,000 (1)324,000,000 (1)2,300,000,000 (1)Adherents Today MinimumAll13,000 (1)14,800,000 (1)324,000,000 (1)2,300,000,000 (1)Basis of the Membership FigureAllChurch-Reported Rolls (3)Independent Survey (7)National Census (1)Scholarly or Demographic Estimate (3)Era of Decline End YearAll100 (1)529 (2)600 (1)700 (1)1200 (2)1750 (1)1976 (1)Era of Decline Start YearAll100 BCE (1)300 (2)380 (1)529 (1)863 (1)1000 (1)1670 (1)1966 (1)Era of Modern Revival End YearAll1471 (1)1990 (1)2000 (2)Era of Modern Revival Start YearAll1463 (1)1930 (1)1990 (2)Establishment StatusAllDeclared Not Established (1)Disestablished (1)Varies by Province (2)How the Expectation Is EnforcedAllCustomary Norm (5)Membership Figure As OfAll1990-01-01 (1)2001-01-01 (1)2005-01-01 (1)2006-01-01 (2)2008-01-01 (1)2010-01-01 (2)2011-12-19 (1)2012-01-01 (1)2012-12-18 (1)2013-01-01 (1)2014-01-01 (1)2016-01-01 (1)2016-12-31 (1)2017-01-01 (1)2018-01-01 (1)2020-01-01 (3)2021-05-12 (1)2025-01-01 (2)Origin Period End YearAll3000 BCE (1)1046 BCE (1)700 BCE (1)400 BCE (2)100 BCE (1)50 (1)270 (1)300 (1)712 (1)800 (2)988 (1)1100 (1)1800 (1)1904 (1)1954 (1)1966 (1)1980 (1)Origin Period Start YearAll3500 BCE (1)1600 BCE (1)1400 BCE (1)586 BCE (1)500 BCE (3)300 BCE (1)1 (1)30 (1)245 (1)500 (1)700 (1)1000 (1)1700 (1)1880 (1)1904 (1)1946 (1)1966 (1)Position on SexualityAllThe body holds no single settled position; the question is actively and openly contested within it (2)Position on UsuryAllInterest is permitted but bound by ethical constraints against exploiting the poor (1)Practice StatusAllClosed ceremonial knowledge, described but not reproduced (1)Discontinued as a state religion (4)Living, and in active revival (1)Living, and practised in varied local forms (6)Partly restricted: some elements are closed to outsiders (6)Standard Rate ExpectedAllTen percent.
