All Mineral (Alchemical Substances)

Natural minerals that alchemists and early chemists gathered as raw material, among them sulfides and arsenic ores prized for their colors, their weight and their behavior in the fire. Several were studied as sources of metals or of the sulfur and mercury that theory placed at the root of all metals. Texts of the period often describe them by color, luster and the vapors they gave off when heated. Members placed here so far include Orpiment, Realgar, Antimony, Pyrite, Cinnabar, Galena.
