The Spiral Dance, first published in 1979 by Starhawk, is one of the Goddess Movement's most widely read books, introducing Goddess centred ritual, seasonal celebration and feminist theology to a broad popular readership well beyond the smaller ritual groups already practising it. It set out ritual structures and a theological framework built around the Goddess as immanent in nature and in the practitioner, and drew on the then current theory of a suppressed prehistoric goddess worshipping culture, a historical claim later academic scholarship has substantially revised. The book has remained continuously in print through several revised editions and is widely credited with bringing Goddess centred practice to an international audience.
