Antlia is one of the 88 modern constellations recognized by the International Astronomical Union. Its genitive form is Antliae, its standard abbreviation is Ant, it is traditionally shown as the Air Pump. It belongs to the La Caille family of constellations. The constellation covers about 239 square degrees of sky, ranking 62nd in size among the 88. Its brightest star is α Ant at apparent magnitude 4.25. It borders Hydra, Pyxis, Vela and Centaurus. Originally Antlia Pneumatica, the constellation was established by Nicolas-Louis de Lacaille in the 18th century.
