Caelum is one of the 88 modern constellations recognized by the International Astronomical Union. Its genitive form is Caeli, its standard abbreviation is Cae, it is traditionally shown as the chisel. The constellation covers about 125 square degrees of sky, ranking 81st in size among the 88. Its brightest star is α Cae at apparent magnitude 4.45. It borders Columba, Lepus, Eridanus, Horologium, Dorado and Pictor.
