Coma Berenices is one of the 88 modern constellations recognized by the International Astronomical Union. Its genitive form is Comae Berenices, its standard abbreviation is Com, it is traditionally shown as Berenice's hair. It belongs to the Ursa Major family of constellations. The constellation covers about 386 square degrees of sky, ranking 42nd in size among the 88. Its brightest star is β Com at apparent magnitude 4.26. It borders Canes Venatici, Ursa Major, Leo, Virgo and Boötes.
