Hydrus

Hydrus is one of the 88 modern constellations recognized by the International Astronomical Union. Its genitive form is Hydri, its standard abbreviation is Hyi, it is traditionally shown as the water snake. It belongs to the Bayer family of constellations and lies in the first quadrant of the southern hemisphere. The constellation covers about 243 square degrees of sky, ranking 61st in size among the 88. Its brightest star is β Hyi at apparent magnitude 2.82. It borders Dorado, Eridanus, Horologium, Mensa, Octans, Phoenix, Reticulum and Tucana.
