Antlia

Modern Western (IAU)

Antlia is one of the 88 modern constellations recognized by the International Astronomical Union. Its genitive form is Antliae, its standard abbreviation is Ant, it is traditionally shown as the Air Pump. It belongs to the La Caille family of constellations. The constellation covers about 239 square degrees of sky, ranking 62nd in size among the 88. Its brightest star is α Ant at apparent magnitude 4.25. It borders Hydra, Pyxis, Vela and Centaurus. In this atlas the entity is the shared sky reference for astronomical objects catalogued by constellation, so every star, nebula or galaxy located within Antlia resolves to one identity.
