Paintings made directly onto walls and ceilings of temples, caves, palaces and synagogues, such as the Ajanta cave paintings, the Dura-Europos synagogue frescoes, the Bonampak murals and Leonardo's Last Supper. An entry belongs here when the work was painted on a wall or ceiling as part of a sacred building or sacred space. It excludes panel paintings and altarpieces.
