Myths

Texts whose subject is the making of the world and the doings of the gods, told as narrative, and which the communities that carry them treat as more than literature. The Popol Vuh, the K'iche' Maya account of creation and of the Hero Twins, is here. Myth books that no living tradition holds as sacred, among them the Enuma Elish, the Theogony, both Eddas and the Mabinogion, are gathered under Other Writings, and the individual stories they contain are recorded separately as Myths and Sacred Narratives.
