The one nakshatra of the Vedic lunar-mansion scheme ruled by Brahma rather than by one of the nine grahas, continuing this type's own one-ruler-per-subcategory convention. Abhijit is the intercalary twenty-eighth nakshatra, inserted between Uttara Ashadha and Shravana in the fuller twenty-eight-nakshatra reckoning found in some Vedic and later astrological sources, identified with the star Vega, standing outside the ordinary twenty-seven-nakshatra scheme's nine planetary rulers precisely because of its intercalary, supplementary status.
