Konkokyo Kyoten

New Religious Movement Scriptures

The Konkokyo Kyoten is Konkokyo's scripture, compiled from three parts: the Kyoten Konko Daijin Oboegaki, the founder Kawate Bunjiro's own memoirs; the Kyoten Oshirase-goto Oboe-cho, a record of the revelations he received; and the Kyoten Gorikai, a three volume collection of his teachings. Together they preserve the religion's founding events and its central teaching in the founder's own recorded words rather than in a later systematized creed. The article's lead separately characterizes the whole compilation as "composed by Konko Daijin and his disciples during the second half of the 19th century"; the tighter attested span from the Contents section (1857-1883, matching the years of the Record of Revelations chapters and running to Konko Daijin's 1883 death) is recorded here instead of the looser half-century characterization.
Practice
Mode of TransmissionSourced to the subject's own account
The Kyoten was not written by the founder as a single continuous text but assembled and formally authorised by Konkokyo's own headquarters well after his 1883 death, gathering his memoirs, the record of his revelations and his recorded teachings into one scripture. Its three part structure reflects that editorial compilation rather than a book Kawate Bunjiro set out to write in that shape himself. 2
