Modern paganism, also called neopaganism or contemporary paganism, covers a range of new religious movements that draw on the indigenous, folkloric and ethnographic record of pre-Christian Europe, North Africa and the Near East, while sharing no single canon or creed across the movement as a whole. This group gathers two influential twentieth-century texts from two distinct pagan traditions: The Spiral Dance, Starhawk's 1979 book of Wiccan ritual, theology and practice that helped shape the feminist and Goddess-centered wing of modern Wicca, and Barddas, the nineteenth-century compilation of bardic and druidic lore assembled by Iolo Morganwg as a foundational text of the modern Druid revival. Neither work descends from an older continuous canon; both are recognized within pagan studies as founding or shaping texts for their own particular branch of the wider modern pagan movement.
