Other Islamic Movements and Sects

Gathers organized Islamic movements and sects that are not themselves Sufi tariqas: political and revivalist movements such as the Muslim Brotherhood and Tablighi Jamaat, educational movements such as the Suleymancilar, the medieval Nizari Ismaili group historically known in the West as the Order of Assassins, the messianic Nuqtavi movement that grew out of Hurufism in Safavid Iran, and the early twentieth century Moorish Science Temple of America, a syncretic African American movement drawing on Islamic identity. A member belongs here for organizing around a distinct communal, political or educational identity within or adjacent to Islam rather than around a Sufi order's own initiatory transmission.
