Passage

Mark 1:14-15

New Testament

The first words Jesus speaks in the earliest gospel, and a summary of his message as Mark understood it. 'At hand' renders engiken, which can mean has drawn near or has arrived, and the ambiguity has carried a century of argument about whether the kingdom was announced as imminent or as present.
