Peoples whose traditional religion once held the status of an official or state-sponsored religion and is no longer practised as a living tradition today, whether because the state that sponsored it ceased to exist, converted to another religion, or the religion itself lapsed with no continuous practising community. This is distinct from a reconstructed tradition, where descendants have since rebuilt and now openly practise a version of the lapsed religion; a people whose former state religion has been actively reconstructed and is practised today belongs instead under reconstructed and openly practised traditions.
