Philosophers gathers the systematic thinkers of ethics, metaphysics and logic across the traditions this atlas covers, from the Presocratics and the Hellenistic schools through the Islamic and Scholastic philosophers to the Continental and Anglophone philosophy of religion of the last three centuries. A figure belongs here for a body of philosophical argument rather than for founding, leading or serving a religious institution, which is what separates this heading from Clergy, Theologians and Religious Officials and from Religious Founders, Prophets and Reformers.
