Wikipedia notes that the word dogmatism "is often used to refer to matters related to religion," describing a strong belief its adherents hold without room for debate. Browsing by tradition lets a visitor read every doctrine from one religion together.FactsLearn MoreTraditionSourcesComments (0)Reader Challenges (0)FactsDirectoryCategoryWell-attestedDoctrines 1Learn MoreTwenty Nine Doctrines of How Faith and Political Power Have Claimed Each Other This article records tradition as it has been passed down and reported. Its sources are not yet part of the atlas's verified catalogue.Religion and Political Authority gathers twenty nine doctrines describing how religious and political power have claimed each other, fused, separated or gone to war. Sacred kingship supplies the oldest cluster. Divine Kingship in Mesopotamia and sacred kingship name the ruler as a figure standing between the human and the divine order, and Devaraja, Chakravartin and Khvarenah name three traditions' own versions of the claim, a disputed reading of Khmer sacred kingship, the Buddhist and Hindu wheel turning monarch, and the Zoroastrian glory marking a legitimate ruler. The Mandate of the Eternal Sky states the Mongol equivalent, kingship licensed by Heaven, and Divine Right of Kings states the early modern claim that a monarch answers to God alone. Fusion and separation split the largest thread. Caesaropapism and Symphonia name two accounts of Byzantine church and empire, subordination against a claimed harmony. Established Church, Royal Supremacy and National Establishment and State Shinto name three national fusions of throne and altar, and Two Kingdoms and Two Swords are Lutheran and Catholic accounts of where each power's own writ runs. The Spiritual Independence of the Church states the Free Church of Scotland's 1843 claim to answer to no state, and Theocracy, Wilayat al-Faqih, Laicite, Secularization and Separation of Church and State name rule by God's law, a jurist's guardianship over it, and two ways of separating them. Zionism, Religious Zionism, Religious Anti Zionism, Christian Zionism and Babylon and Zion state five positions on one claim, and Just War, Crusade, Nonresistance and Nonconformity to the World and Sulh-i-Kul close the group on force, a threshold for war, duty, a refusal of both, and Akbar's policy of peace toward every faith.TraditionFilter Results17 entriesAdherents Today MaximumAll57,264 (1)225,776 (1)1,500,000 (1)2,130,000 (1)3,500,000 (1)95,000,000 (1)Adherents Today MinimumAll57,264 (1)225,776 (1)1,450,000 (1)1,500,000 (1)3,500,000 (1)78,000,000 (1)Basis of the Education Facility CountAllThe Body's Own Published Statistics (1)Basis of the Humanitarian Aid FigureAllThe Body's Own Published Statistics (1)Basis of the Membership FigureAllChurch-Reported Rolls (10)Independent Survey (5)National Census (3)Scholarly or Demographic Estimate (4)Basis of the Wealth FigureAllAudited Annual Report (1)Regulator Filing (2)The Body's Own Published Statistics (1)Church FamilyAllAnabaptist (2)Anglican (1)Baptist (2)Evangelical (1)Lutheran (2)Reformed (1)Date of Separation End YearAll680 (1)1527 (1)1555 (1)1561 (1)1815 (1)1876 (1)Date of Separation Start YearAll632 (1)1521 (1)1525 (1)1534 (1)1536 (1)1772 (1)1873 (1)1915 (1)1961 (1)Defining Doctrinal PositionAllAhura Mazda opposed by a destructive principle, made real through good thought, word and deed (2)Belief may be concealed where disclosure would bring harm (taqiyya) (1)Chalcedonian: two natures in the one person of Christ (Chalcedon, 451) (1)Chalcedonian: two natures in the one person of Christ (Chalcedon, 451) (3)Ethical practice held prior to and independent of theological agreement (1)Ethics grounded in reason and human experience, without the supernatural (3)Halakha binding and not subject to historical revision (1)Halakha binding, with secular education, work and civic participation affirmed rather than merely tolerated (1)In the Imam's absence a qualified jurist holds his political authority (1)In the Imam's absence the jurist guides and judges but does not rule (1)Succession by divine designation in the Prophet's family (1)The Imams are protected from sin and from error (ismah) (1)The tzaddik or rebbe as spiritual intermediary and head of the community (1)Trinitarian: one God in three persons (6)Trinitarian: one God in three persons (3)Documented Accused CountAll390 (1)Education Facility Count As OfAll1878-12-31 (1)GovernanceAllA federation of autonomous member organisations (4)Authority in living jurists whom the laity choose to emulate (1)Authority in trained scholars, with no central office (1)Autonomous local bodies under a national umbrella association (2)Congregational: each congregation self-governing (3)Episcopal: governed by bishops (2)Lay boards or trusts govern, alongside the priesthood (2)No central authority (3)Presbyterian: governed by elders in graded courts (1)Priestly office passing by descent (2)Synodal: governed by synods of clergy and lay delegates (2)How the Expectation Is EnforcedAllCodified Obligation With Consequences (2)Codified Obligation, Ruled Unenforceable (1)Customary Norm (3)Obligation to Support, No Set Rate (1)Preached Expectation, Not Enforced (2)Humanitarian Aid Figure As OfAll1877-12-31 (1)Liturgical LanguageAllAramaic (2)Avestan (2)Classical Arabic (1)Hebrew (2)The vernacular (10)Membership Figure As OfAll1900-01-01 (1)1930-01-01 (1)1941-01-01 (1)1985-01-01 (1)1988-12-31 (1)2006-01-01 (1)2007-01-01 (1)2009-01-01 (2)2010-01-01 (1)2011-01-01 (1)2013-01-01 (3)2014-01-01 (1)2015-01-01 (1)2016-12-31 (1)2019-01-01 (1)2020-01-01 (1)2021-03-21 (1)2022-01-01 (3)2022-05-03 (1)2022-12-31 (1)2023-01-01 (2)2023-12-31 (1)2024-01-01 (1)2024-12-31 (3)2025-01-01 (1)2026-08-16 (1)OrdinationAllConferred by a teacher's certification of learning (1)No ordination;
