Mendicant Orders

The orders of friars who lived by preaching and begging rather than by endowed monasteries: the Franciscans and their Capuchin branch, the Poor Clares, the Dominicans, the Augustinians and the Carmelites. An order belongs here when its cited article describes a mendicant order or one of its branches. It excludes enclosed monastic orders and the active teaching congregations. A later fill lane places an entity here only when a source states that membership in words.
