Yarsanism Sites

The shrine of Sultan Sahak, near the Perdivar Bridge in Sheykh Hasan, Kermanshah Province, Iran, marks the site associated with the teaching of Sultan Sahak, the figure Yarsani theology reveres as the manifestation that opened the current cycle of its religious history. It is one of several pilgrimage shrines in Yarsanism's Zagros heartland, alongside the tomb of Baba Yadgar and the tombs of Pir Benjamin and Pir Musi in Kerend-e Gharb. Type of Site Detail
Twentieth century ethnographic fieldwork on the Yarsan documents Perdivar drawing pilgrims from across the community's different khandans, the hereditary lineages that structure Yarsani religious life, evidence scholars have cited for the persistence of the community's devotional geography through periods of state pressure on non-Islamic Iranian minorities. 2
