Official Declaration 2

Official Declaration 2 is a statement of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, issued in 1978 and incorporated into the church's scripture, the Doctrine and Covenants, addressing the church's historic policy of restricting priesthood ordination by race. Like the earlier Official Declaration 1, it emerged from a longstanding controversy, in this case over priesthood and temple restrictions on Black members, and it did not explicitly repudiate the earlier doctrine even as it ended the restriction in practice.
