Remonstrant Confession

Remonstrant (Arminian)
Origin from 1621

The Remonstrant Confession, formally the Confession or Declaration of the Pastors which are called Remonstrants, is the confession of faith of the Remonstrant brotherhood, completed and approved in 1620 and published in a Dutch edition in 1621 and a Latin edition in 1622. Its principal author was Simon Episcopius, who completed the work alone after being chosen alongside two others, and it comprises a preface and twenty-five chapters on scripture, the nature of God, salvation through Christ, the Christian spiritual life, election, the last things, the church and the ministry. It was written as a concise and accessible statement of Remonstrant belief and as a corrective to what the Remonstrants regarded as misrepresentations of their position published in the official acts of the Synod of Dort, which had prohibited Remonstrant church services.
