Hahgwehdaetgah (Flint)

Haudenosaunee Deities
Hahgwehdaetgah Flint Shard

Hahgwehdaetgah, whose name is translated as Flint, is the malevolent twin son of the sky goddess Atahensic, already recorded on this atlas, in Iroquois, or Haudenosaunee, creation tradition. Tradition holds that he killed his mother by bursting violently from her side at birth, in contrast to his brother Hahgwehdiyu, known as Sapling, who was born normally. Where Hahgwehdiyu built the sky, sun, moon and stars from their mother's remains, Hahgwehdaetgah worked to undo his brother's constructive acts, notably creating darkness to drive down the sun.
