Kanati

Cherokee Deities

In Cherokee tradition, Kanati, whose name means The Lucky Hunter, is one of the first two humans, alongside his wife Selu, whose name means Corn. Kanati hunted and brought game home for Selu to prepare, keeping the animals he hunted in a hidden cave, until the couple's sons secretly followed him and let the animals escape, so that Kanati had to go and try to catch some of them again for food.
