The Darqawiyya, or Darqawi, is a Sufi order described as a revivalist branch of the Shadhiliyya brotherhood that originated in Morocco. Its followers gathered around Sheikh Muhammad al-Arabi al-Darqawi, who lived from 1760 to 1823, and it became one of the leading Sufi orders in the region, emphasizing poverty and asceticism and gaining support among rural and urban lower class populations.
