Liturgical Function

This page groups mantras by the ritual role they play. Wikipedia notes that "one function of mantras is to solemnize and ratify rituals," each Vedic mantra coupled with a specific ritual act. Browsing by liturgical function lets a visitor find every mantra that serves the same role inside a rite.

Two Formulas Paired in Thelemic Scripture as the Aeon and Its Governing Law

This article records tradition as it has been passed down and reported. Its sources are not yet part of the atlas's verified catalogue.

Thelema Mantras gathers two formulas that its own descriptions present as a deliberately paired set within Thelemic scripture, one naming an era and the other naming the principle that governs conduct within it. Thelema is a registered restricted tradition in the atlas, and this article stays inside what the members' own published descriptions already state.

Abrahadabra is Aleister Crowley's respelling of the ancient charm abracadabra, attested as early as the third century as a fever remedy written in a diminishing triangle; Crowley changed one letter to produce an eleven letter word, eleven being his own number of magick, and made it the word of the aeon in his system. Thelema, the Word of the Law is named in The Book of the Law itself as the Word of the Law, held there in direct contradistinction to Abrahadabra, which the same text names the Word of the Aeon; the entry is deliberately named in full, rather than as the bare word Thelema, to keep it visibly distinct from the religion of the same name that the atlas also catalogues.

The pairing is the whole content of this grouping: an era named by one formula and a governing principle named by the other, both drawn directly from the same founding text and neither extended here beyond what that text and its own published description already say.
