The Puranas and the Agamas: Hindu Texts of Story and Temple Worship
Most Hindu mythology and most Hindu temple practice rest on two families of Sanskrit texts rather than on the Vedas. This path moves from the Puranas, which tell of gods, ages of the world and sacred places, to the Agamas, the ritual manuals that govern how temples are built and worshipped in.
