All Stations of the Nafs

The Sufi doctrine of the stations of the nafs, the soul, a graduated scheme of spiritual development moving from the base commanding self toward the soul at peace, distinct from the more general Islamic virtue-ethics scheme gathered under this type's own Akhlaq Virtues heading. Nafs al-mutma'inna, the soul at peace or at rest, is named in the Quran, surah al-Fajr, as the soul addressed at death and invited to return to its Lord well pleased and pleasing, the culminating station in the scheme classical Sufi exegesis built around this verse.
