The rabbinic doctrine of the yetzer, the inclination, gathered here on its evil pole and distinct from any other tradition's named vice list gathered under this type. The yetzer hara, the evil inclination, is the rabbinic name for the impulse toward selfish or destructive conduct, appetite and desire; rabbinic literature does not treat it as demonic in origin, reading it closer to a natural drive that a person is responsible for directing rather than eliminating, conventionally paired against its opposing impulse, the yetzer hatov.
