All Yogis

Practitioners whose standing rests on sustained ascetic and meditative discipline rather than on office, descent or revelation. These are living traditions, and the atlas describes them rather than instructing in them: what is recorded here is who a figure was and what a lineage holds, not how anything is done. Milarepa is filed here, a Tibetan case rather than an Indian one, and the life story that carries his name was compiled long after he lived, which is a fact about the source and not a judgement on the man.

The Yogis

This group holds yogis, accomplished practitioners and masters of yoga and ascetic spiritual discipline in the Indian traditions, figures marked by the powers and realisation attributed to long inner practice.

The browser will find the figures the atlas classes here. The entries describe each yogi's tradition and reputation, treating the extraordinary feats ascribed to them as the tradition's own account.
