The Roman Catholic Diocese of Camden filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on 1 October 2020 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey. A settlement with the Official Committee of Tort Claimant Creditors was first announced in April 2022, and U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Jerrold N. Poslusny Jr. confirmed the diocese's Third Modified Eighth Amended Plan of Reorganization on 14 March 2024, establishing an 87.5 million dollar trust to be funded by the diocese and related Catholic entities over five years for about 324 survivors of clergy sexual abuse. Of the 276 survivors who voted on the plan, 270, or 97.8 percent, voted to accept it. The plan also assigns the diocese's insurance rights to the trust, expected to add further funds, and maintains the diocese's child protection protocols first adopted in 2002.

Key Finding
