528 Hz, the "Miracle" Tone

528 Hz is the most famous of the Solfeggio frequencies, the central tone of the core six, marketed in the sound-healing literature as the "miracle tone" or the "love frequency" and associated with transformation and with the heart or solar-plexus region. The most widely repeated claim, that 528 Hz "repairs DNA", deserves plain correction: it has no scientific basis whatever, arising from a misreading of unrelated laboratory work, and no peer-reviewed study supports the idea that listening to a 528 Hz tone alters DNA or heals disease. The frequency, like the rest of the set, is a modern construction, introduced by Joseph Puleo and popularised in the 1999 Puleo and Horowitz book by a numerological derivation, and its association with the syllable "Mi" of the medieval solfege is nominal, the eleventh-century chant having no fixed hertz pitch. The tone is genuinely pleasant and widely used in relaxation music, which is a fair description of its appeal; the healing and DNA claims are not, and nothing here is medical advice or a therapeutic claim.
