His 1898 book gave nearly every degree its own image, decades before Marc Edmund Jones and the clairvoyant Elsie Wheeler produced the material now generally read through Dane Rudhyar's 1973 restatement in 1925. The decan and term already recorded for this degree trace to two named ancient writers rather than to unattributed convention. Vettius Valens, working in Greek around the year 175, divided each sign into three ten degree faces under a rotating planetary sequence, which is why Venus continues to rule this decan across Cancer's first third, and Ptolemy's Tetrabiblos separately preserves the Egyptian bounds table, which moves this degree into Venus's own term as well, the two ancient divisions now agreeing. Neither writer pictured a degree, only ruled it. The first complete pictorial set for all 360 degrees survives whole in 1494, in Johannes Angelus's Latin Astrolabium Planum, safely public domain but never freely translated into English. In practice, this degree is mostly used to time events through progressions or synastry.Cross-Tradition ConnectionsArticle OnCancer 8, Sabian Symbols Well-attested Source Divinity Atlas Long-Form Articles, First Editiontier 1SourcesDivinity Atlas Long-Form Articles, First Editiontier 1Comments (0)No comments yet.
