Charubel's entry for this degree is the first pure geometry of Scorpio: a triangle. Three lines, three angles, the minimum figure that encloses space, and the strongest, since a triangle cannot be deformed without breaking a side, which is why builders put it in every truss and bridge. Read as an emblem it is structure at its most economical, stability produced not by mass but by relation, each side braced by the other two. Number symbolism gives it further registers, the triads that organise thought everywhere, beginning, middle and end, thesis, antithesis and synthesis, the trinities of the world's religions, and in astrology the trine itself, the aspect of ease drawn as this very figure.
