The specific fashion vocabulary in Rudhyar's 1973 reading, which puts the wearer in a garment of his own decade rather than of 1925, is itself a period marker; the phrase could not have come from Jones's own 1953 book, let alone from the 1925 sitting in Balboa Park, and stands as one of the clearer instances in the whole set where Rudhyar's language visibly updates Wheeler's original picture to fit his own moment rather than hers.

Saturn, the planet of age and limit, ruling the decan under a scene explicitly about resisting age, is a pointed pairing whether or not it was chosen on purpose. The shadow is a youth performed rather than lived, clothing standing in for a vitality that either is or is not actually present underneath it. Leo governs self-display and the confidence to be looked at, and a woman choosing her own image against the calendar's expectations is a fitting, if double-edged, expression of the sign's central claim to write its own terms for how it will be seen.
