A Name Nobody Can Confirm

Every copy of the Black Book of Satan credits its authorship to Anton Long, a name the Order of Nine Angles has used for decades to identify the writer behind much of its foundational material. What that name actually refers to has never been settled. Researchers and journalists who have investigated the group have repeatedly proposed that Anton Long is a pseudonym used by David Myatt, a British writer with a documented history of far right political activity before a later, publicly stated conversion to Islam. Myatt has denied being Anton Long on more than one occasion, and no piece of documentary evidence has closed the question either way.

That uncertainty is not incidental to how scholars treat the corpus. Because the material is self published, unsigned in any verifiable sense and impossible to date using ordinary bibliographic methods, researchers of new religious movements generally read the Black Book of Satan as evidence only of what the Order of Nine Angles chooses to say about itself, not as independent confirmation of who wrote it, how large the group actually is, or what its members do beyond the text.

That limitation shapes every serious citation of the work, including this one: it establishes the group's own self description reliably, and almost nothing else. A reader encountering the corpus should treat it the way researchers do, as a first person account from an organization with every incentive to control how it is perceived from outside.
