Charubel's image for this degree is stark and deliberately bare: a naked man, having a serpent coiled around the lower part of the body. The nakedness strips away every social marker, rank, trade, nation, leaving only a body and what has attached itself to it, and the serpent is coiled rather than merely present, wound around the lower body specifically, the seat of instinct, appetite and the animal foundations any higher aspiration is built on. Serpents coiling the body run through the oldest iconography available, healing and poison, wisdom and temptation folded into the same creature depending on the culture asked, and Charubel supplies no verdict, only the coil itself, present and unremoved.
