Why the Twelfth from the Moon Is Not Read as Loss

Anapha is a planet in the twelfth house from the Moon, and a reader who has learned that the twelfth is the house of loss and expenditure will find the combination's reputation surprising. It is read favourably: the tradition attributes to it health, a good bearing, and a reputation that goes ahead of the person.

The resolution is that the four lunar combinations are not read as house placements at all. They belong to a different scheme, in which what matters is simply whether the Moon has company and on which side. The second from the Moon is the sign it is moving toward; the twelfth is the sign it has left. A planet in either is described as attending the Moon, and the meanings assigned to Sunapha and Anapha reflect that framing rather than the ordinary significations of the second and twelfth houses.
