This section gathers the beings of myth and folklore who are not gods, and the animals that carry meaning in ritual and symbol: the mythical creatures of legend and the bestiaries (dragons, phoenixes, griffins, kitsune, thunderbirds), and the spirit animals and sacred beasts attached to particular deities, clans and systems of augury.
These are the inhabitants of the mythic world below the level of the gods: the monsters heroes fight, the guardians and messengers, the shape-shifters, and the ordinary animals that a tradition invests with meaning.
