The Birthday Gift Number

The Birthday Gift number is a variant reading of the day of birth in which the unreduced two-digit day, the 14th, the 27th, and so on, is considered in its own right rather than collapsed to a single figure, on the principle that the compound number carries a nuance the reduced digit loses. It is read as a particular endowment or talent conferred by the exact day, a specific gift within the broader Birthday and Life Path themes.

The practice of attending to the two-digit compound behind the reduced digit is one of the points where modern Pythagorean numerology borrows the habit of the Chaldean system, which places great weight on compound numbers. Like the rest of the apparatus it is a twentieth-century construction, part of the American numerology assembled from around 1900; the distinction between the reduced digit and the compound behind it is real within the system but the system itself is modern rather than ancient.
