A budget under two million dollars, funded almost entirely by direct contributions rather than by government grants or large institutional partnerships, and running within five thousand dollars of balanced, is consistent with a lean grantmaking body rather than one running large field operations of its own: the filing's own numbers describe an organization that channels donor gifts into partner-run programmes on food security, agriculture and education rather than one maintaining an extensive paid staff or physical infrastructure of its own, a shape that follows directly from how the monk who founded it originally raised money for tsunami relief in 2004, through direct appeal to dharma friends rather than through an existing institution.
