George Washington Carey trained and practiced as a homeopath, and his system starts from a real nineteenth century medical idea: Wilhelm Heinrich Schuessler's theory that a dozen mineral salts, already present in the body's own tissue, are the actual working parts behind most disease and most cure, so that healing is a matter of restoring the right salt to the right tissue. Carey took that chemistry and fused it with scripture, arguing that the Bible speaks constantly of the body's own chemistry under other names, so that a phrase like "manna from heaven" or a parable figure's name is, read correctly, a coded reference to a mineral salt, a gland, or a bodily fluid rather than to any external, historical event. He summarized the whole approach in one sentence that became his own signature claim: that the human body is "a chemical formula in operation."
Inez Eudora Perry, an astrologer, brought the zodiac into the same system, matching each of the twelve mineral salts to one of the twelve signs, and the two published their major joint statement of the whole approach as God-Man: The Word Made Flesh in 1920. Read as intended, the book is not offering a metaphor. It presents the correspondence between scripture and physiology as the literal, hidden meaning of the text, recoverable by anyone who learns the code, and the two of them ran a school, the Carey-Perry School of the Chemistry of Life, to teach exactly that.
The book is in the public domain and has been reprinted many times since; nothing in it is independently verified anatomy, chemistry or biblical scholarship, and this atlas records its claims as the tradition's own rather than as established fact.
