Caritas Internationalis states on its own website that its confederation of 162 national member organizations, working in more than 200 countries and territories, reaches nearly half a billion people every year. The confederation gives no stated methodology or dated annual accounting behind that figure, no breakdown by region or by kind of assistance, so this atlas records it as an approximate self-reported claim, sourced to the body's own published statistics, rather than as an audited count a reader could independently check.

A dated, methodologically stated figure drawn from a specific Caritas annual report would settle what the self-reported total leaves open, and this atlas names that as unfinished work rather than adopting the round figure as verified.
